HALIBUT FISHING TRIPS

A group of four people holding large fish that they caught on the Ketchikan fishing trip.

Halibut fishing runs from early May to late September. During these trips we anchor or drift sand flats, pinnacles, trenches, and other bottom structure in search of the largest flounder in the world. Halibut are ferocious fighters and where they live offers the chance for lots of by-catch. This includes cod, rockfish, lingcod, pollock, sharks, and numerous other flounder species.

ABOUT

This charter aims to knock off a bucket list fish for most hardcore fishermen, the Pacific halibut. Pacific halibut also known as Alaskan halibut are ferocious fighters and amazing table fare. These fish flood into the waters surrounding Ketchikan starting in early May and will be around all the way through September.

Fishing is done by anchoring or drifting sand flats, pinnacles, troughs, and other bottom structure where halibut hunt their prey. Jigging artificial lures tipped with cut bait is a tried and true tactic for enticing the bite of a large halibut. Generally fishing is done in 200—400 feet of water, but don’t be surprised to catch one trolling for salmon or jigging for rockfish either! These fish are predators and wherever they feel they can get the best meal is where they will be found.

This trip allows for lots of by-catch including rockfish, sharks, cod, other flounder species, and occasionally salmon!
