Ketchikans 2023 fishing season was one for the books. It was one of the longest and most successful king salmon runs we have seen in some time. After opening day June 1st we were consistently finding big chinooks including some beautiful chromers all the way into late August!

The infamous pink salmon came in full force early. Arriving in mid to late June and still being caught in early September with prime time being the month of July.

Our summer and fall runs of cohos (silver salmon) were both exceptional with summer fish showing early (late June) and holding us over till mid August when the big fall cohos showed up. From mid August to mid September we were consistently catching cohos north of 10 pounds in weight.

Chums were a welcome addition this year with many captains saying they had never seen so many (including myself). Many days we were coming in with 4 different species of salmon in the fish box. Chums aren’t given as much credit as they should, they get large and put up a great fight. They are also excellent table fare when ocean caught and handled properly.

Lastly is the almighty halibut. Halibut fishing was consistent from late May through September. Once we find the early arrivals of migrating fish in May and early June we can generally find consistent limits until the mass migration of fish really show up around mid June.

We hope to have you fishing with us next summer! Please reach out online or give us a call with any questions.

Cheers,
